Loma Prieta Memories

I remember coming home from school that day, when the Battle of the Bay was on TV and my dad had the day off of work for his birthday, October 17.

Dad was playing around with my baby brother, throwing him up in the air and onto the bed, lots of laughs ensued. At one moment, my brother hit the mattress and the earthquake started. We immediately thought, “Did Dad really throw him that hard? Oh wait… holy crap, it’s an earthquake… and it’s still going!”

We were thankful that Dad had the day off of work and was not stuck on the other side of a non-functioning BART system. We were fortunate to all be home together.
