A first in my series of posts of cocktails to try. This Manhattan variation sounds lovely for the holiday season. 

The Hunting Horn Cocktail (via Chuck T.)

A variation on the Manhattan, but a new one for me. From the book The Saloon in the Home, published in 1930, which is a compendium of Prohibitionist and temperance pieces, cocktail recipes and humorous illustrations.

2 ounces apple brandy or applejack
1 ounce sweet vermouth
1-2 dashes Angostura bitters
Brandied cherry.

Stir with ice for 30 seconds, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
