Amusing Myself To Death : on Cloverfield →
Warning: Spoilers! One of the few reviews of Cloverfield that I find myself nodding in agreement at. My favorite part is in the concluding paragraph: “nobody chose to go through hell that day, but hell came to town anyhow. there was no lesson. it just happened. the sense of it never came.” There is nothing more terrifying than the inability to make sense of an already terrifying...

I would say there is quite a bit of truth to this. My favorite comment on this entry is the one that (sarcastically) recommends using Comic Sans for all your papers… which only reinforces the idea that fonts definitely create an impression of the author. (via 12monkeys)
San Francisco is just like Second Life →
And… WRONG. The San Francisco tech scene might be like Second Life, but as someone who has grown up in the Bay Area his entire life, any “natives” can tell you that this city and the area surrounded it has its own identity beyond the tech scene. You just have to be pro-active in finding that community. For all of the flaws in this area and for all my moments of escapism...

Sit with a blank white wall to your right. Have a friend sit facing you. Hold up a hand mirror between you, positioned so that your left eye sees your friend’s face and your right eye sees a reflection of the wall. Now sweep your hand in a circular motion across the wall. Your friend’s face will disappear except for his eyes and mouth, like the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland. This...

Sour Cherry Rye
1.5 oz. Jim Beam Rye .5 oz. Cherry Heering .5 Lemon juice 2-3 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake for 30 seconds and strain into a cocktail glass. (via Drink a Week) We made this with 16 yr. Sazerac Rye and Meyer lemon juice. Tastes like a good summer drink (yes, although it’s winter at the moment). I would garnish this with a bourbon cherry.

oh, hello.
A-List: “Via” attribution links are a tip jar for the sites that enable you to fashion a career out of typing. Choosing to acknowledge only your treehouse buddies and the non-fiction authors whom you hope will eventually invite you to a literate weekend in the Hamptons is more than tacky; it also denies your readers access to the fundamental resource that a good linkblog represents — an engaged...
